The joke, explained
GM is a short online greeting for good morning. Pairing it with a four-in-the-afternoon clarification makes the routine greeting visibly late. The joke works for online communities and builders with shifted schedules, where the first message of the day may arrive long after a conventional morning has ended.
For the friend whose first good morning arrives after lunch.

Questions
Why greet the room with GM in the afternoon?
GM means good morning, but online it can function as a first greeting whenever someone arrives. The four-o'clock clarification makes that relaxed relationship with the clock explicit.
Does the time describe a promised schedule or event?
No. It belongs to the printed joke about greeting the day late. The line leaves the reason open, from a shifted routine to simply arriving in the conversation after lunch.
